History
The month of Ramadan is ninth on the Islamic calendar and is said to be when the prophet Mohammed was gifted the Koran.
During this time, Mohammed declared the gates of Heaven were open, and the devils were locked in Hell.
Ramadan is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam, forgoing earthly needs to be closer to God.
Chapter 2, Verse 185, of the Koran states: “The month of Ramadan is that in which was revealed the Koran; a guidance for mankind, and clear proofs of the guidance, and the criterion (of right and wrong).
“And whosoever of you is present, let him fast the month, and whosoever of you is sick or on a journey, a number of other days.
