Our client, a mid-sized professional services company (legal) is looking for a hands-on professional to come in and manage the finance and accounting function. Someone with an exceptional eye for detail, and extremely organized with the abilities to lead the team, report as required and maintain confidentiality. Reporting to the president


  • Responsible for the overall accounting function: including hiring, training, and staff development
  • Monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting package as well as forecasting with GAAP compliance
  • Cashflow management and control of employee expenditures
  • Monitoring accounts receivables and ensuring the correct deposit of all monies
  • Year end audit preparation
  • Prepare year end adjusting entries, accruals, and calculation of the lawyer’s surplus
  • Prepare allocation of the consolidated partnership income, Summary of Partners draws, changes in partner’s capital account
  • Creation and maintenance of budgets and forecasts
  • Continual analysis of ongoing budgets and forecasts for all project
  • Accountable for implementation and maintenance of a system of internal controls
  • Maintain fixed asset continuity schedule and accrual schedule A
  • Multiple account reconciliations
  • Responsible for all government remittances including payroll (processing) GST, EHT etc.
  • Monitor condominium unit purchaser deposits in designated trust accounts and release of deposits on a per condominium project bases


  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant controller experience
  • CPA designation is bonus
  • Previous experience within a law firm considered a big asset
  • Hands-on, independent work style
